Headers and footers in an Excel spreadsheet offer a simple way to put repeating information at the top of every printed page of your spreadsheet. You can even put a picture in a header or footer. But occasionally you might need to put different information on the first page of the spreadsheet that what will appear on every page after the first. Adding Preset Headers and Footers in the Page Setup Dialog Box Click on the Page Layout tab of the ribbon; Click on the Page Setup dialog box launcher from the menu to open the Page Setup dialog box; In the dialog box, select the Header/Footer tab; Select from the preset or custom header - footer.
You need to go into 'Page Setup' to configure the print settings of what Excel calls 'Print Titles', the area that you can configure to print on every page. It includes rows to repeat at the top and columns to repeat on the left of the spreadsheet. To get to it first close the Print Preview window, then go to File - Page Setup.: You can get to Page Setup from the Print Preview screen, but you can't configure any of the printing options while you have the sheet in print preview mode.
This is why I have you cancel out of it first. Once you've selected Page Setup you'll get the dialog box with all of the global page configuration options. Click on the 'Sheet' tab to get to the printing configurations, then go to the 'Rows to repeat at top' box. You'll see a button at the right side of the of box that's called the 'Collapse Dialog button', its purpose is to temporarily collapse the dialog box so that you can enter the range of cells that you want by actually selecting cells in the worksheet.
This can be substantially faster and easier than typing in the values, as you are actually selecting the range of cells that you want so it is taking all of the guesswork out of it.

For example, you might create a footer that has page numbers, the date, and the name of your file. You can create your own, or use many built-in headers and footers.
Headers and footers are displayed only in Page Layout view, Print Preview, and on printed pages. You can also use the Page Setup dialog box if you want to insert headers or footers for more than one worksheet at a time. Click in the Left, Center, or Right section box, and then click any of the buttons to add the header or footer information that you want in that section. To add or change the header or footer text, type additional text or edit the existing text in the Left, Center, or Right section box.
